New York Times Dips A Toe Into Pro-Family Waters!

How bold as to suggest maybe mothers and fathers (!!) raising kids together (!!) are good for the health / upbringing of a child. I wonder what NYT readers are liable to do with themselves after reading that!
In recent years, several fathers’ rights organizations have offered father-only parenting programs and groups, and studies have shown that these help men become more responsive and engaged with their children. But a new randomized, controlled study conducted by the Pruetts and the Cowans found that the families did even better if mothers were brought into the picture.
...notably, the families in the couples group did best. They had less parental stress and more marital happiness than the other parents studied, suggesting that the critical difference was not greater involvement by the fathers in child-rearing but greater emotional support between couples.

Mandatory Sex Lessons For Every 15-Year-Old In Britain

From the story: All 15-year-olds must receive at least one year of sex and relationship lessons, Ed Balls, the Schools Secretary, said yesterday. Those whose religious or moral values prevent them from attending will be classed as truants and may be punished by the school. Until now parents could opt out of lessons about contraception, sexually transmitted diseases and homosexuality until their children were 19.

Why Maine Stinks For The Gay Rights Movement

1. They lost was in New England, where they're supposed to have a stronghold.
2. They outspent traditional-marriage advocates by over 2-1.
3. They poured in man-hours and lobbying efforts from other states, and they couldn't even steal it that way.
4. Democratic Governor John Baldacci had enthusiastically thrown his support behind the law, and was roundly rebuked.
5. They got a little momentum from Washington State, which approved their gay marriage referendum, but no one really cares. Meaning that all eyes are on Maine, and everyone saw them fail.

Gandolf the Gay Vandalizes the Bible

Unbelievable. From British local press:
Sir Ian McKellen's penchant for ripping out pages of the Bibles he finds in hotel rooms has caught on - fans have started sending him sections of text they've removed. The openly gay Lord of the Rings star tears out a section of Leviticus, which condemns homosexuality, whenever he finds the good book in hotel suites - and his small-scale vandalism has inspired others to do the same. He tells Details magazine, "I'm not proudly defacing the book, but it's a choice between removing that page and throwing away the whole Bible. "I got delivered a package of 40 of those pages... that had been torn out by a married couple I know. They put them on a bit of string so that I could hang it up in the bathroom."

Rev. Wright Praises Magazine’s "No Nonsense Marxism"; America Is "Land Of The Greed & Home Of The Slave"

The more we understand Obama's character, the more his friendship with Rev. Wright makes sense. Our parents knew that we become who we surround ourselves with. Unfortunately -- and as I have said before -- in our personal lives we have an amazing ability to spot fakes, phonies, and degenerates (not to mention, correlating the relevance of loser friends with the ones who chose them), but when it comes to choosing a President, we lose that ability. Let's hope America has made the connection by 2012.
Full video is HERE if you wish to indulge in Wright's full context. H/T: Breitbart

New Science: Man and Woman Not Necessary in Conception

It seems parents are having less and less of a role in children's lives lately, but according to scientists, they're not even necessary to make a child anymore:
Human eggs and sperm have been grown in the laboratory in research which could change the face of parenthood.
It paves the way for a cure for infertility and could help those left sterile by cancer treatment to have children who are biologically their own.
But it raises a number of moral and ethical concerns. These include the possibility of children being born through entirely artificial means, and men and women being sidelined from the process of making babies.
Opponents argue that it is wrong to meddle with the building blocks of life and warn that the advances taking place to tackle infertility risk distorting and damaging relations between family members.
The U.S. government-funded research also offers the prospect of a 'miracle pill' which staves off the menopause, allowing women to wait longer to have a child. Read the full story @ the Daily Mail Online.

Outrage: HBO's Larry David Crosses the Line of Religious Respect in Comedic Attempt

Seinfeld creator and "Curb Your Enthusiasm" comedian Larry David is under fire following the latest episode of his HBO series. Critics are saying he "pushed the mocking of religion and Christian beliefs over the line" in the episode that features David urinating on on a painting of Jesus Christ.
Video HT: Greg Hengler
Fox News has the full story:
During Sunday's episode, David, who created, wrote and produced "Seinfeld," visits a bathroom in his assistant's home and splatters urine on a picture of Jesus. Instead of wiping it off, David leaves the restroom. Minutes later, David's assistant enters the bathroom and concludes that Jesus is crying. She then summons her mother to the bathroom, where both women kneel in prayer.
"When David and Jerry Seinfeld (playing himself) are asked if they ever experienced a miracle, David answers, 'every erection is a miracle,' [Catholic League president Bill] Donohue's statement continued. "That's what passes for creativity these days."

Schumer Pushes For Gay Marriage In 50 States
|

Next week, there will be a referendum in Maine to overturn a same-sex marriage law passed by the state Legislature. There will also be a referendum in Washington State to decide whether to give same-sex couples the benefits of marriage, excluding the use of the word "marriage" to describe their relationship.
Voter turnout in special referendums such as these are highly unpredictable, so it's hard to tell what will be decided. But with the latest poll saying 52 percent of voters in Maine are for the same-sex marriage laws and 43 percent are against, it's clear that the populace is still very much divided.
Despite this divide, Chuck Schumer decided to reinforce his desire to install gay marriage in "all 50 states" at a recent New York gay rights fundraiser. "This should not be a partisan issue; after all, if Dick cheney can support gay marriage, so can every Senator." Sorry, Chuck. Too many Americans are still very much undecided.

Atheist Advertising Godlessness in American Cities
|

An anonymous donor is apparently donating thousands of dollars for the express purpose of advertising atheism in the New York City subway system. According to blogger Gothamist, yesterday kicked-off a month-long advertising blitz in a dozen Manhattan subway stations with signs advertising the slogan, "A Million New Yorkers Are Good Without God. Are You?" In addition to promoting godlessness, the advertising will reportedly also be promoting a new book called Good Without God, by Greg Epstein.
The ads are being coordinated by "New York City Coalition for Reason," an umbrella organization comprised of local atheist groups, City Room reports. According to their website, "All Big Apple COR organizations share common ground—promoting wider acceptance of a more rational and realistic view of the universe—but each has its own particular emphasis. Some advocate for scientific knowledge, reason, and skeptical inquiry. Some focus on the promotion of dogma-free humanist ethics, and an appreciation for life and the lives of other persons."
New York isn't the only city being targeted by these outspoken atheists. Chicagoist is also reporting on billboards that have popped-up in the Windy City:
The billboard, located at LaSalle and Grand and paid for by the Chicago Coalition For Reason, says, "Are You Good Without God? Millions Are." The CCoR describes itself as "an exciting group of organizations in the Chicago area, each of which celebrates a human-centered and naturalistic approach to life. For us, non-dogmatic and rational approaches to ethics, culture and the human experience are the most meaningful and satisfying."

Matthews: Religious Right Most Resembles The Taliban

I'm guessing Matthews' comment was a tactical one for it's YouTube potential (i.e., ridiculous). In the spirit of Zell Miller, "I wish we could go back to the days" when Matthews was wrong sometimes, charming many times, and funny a lot of times. MSNBC obviously gave him a kick in the butt to be more Left, leaving more people (like me) to choose another show at that hour.
BTW: How about Gaffney's comment to Ron Reagan: "Your father would be ashamed of you!"? Whatever President Reagan would think of his son, I'm guessing the first thought would be to wonder where every ounce of masculinity chose to live after departing from his son's body.
